After much demand, from the band and Space CUDets, Showbiz is finally coming to music-streaming services. CUD’s final album for A&M, released in 1994 and now deleted, is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer from January 22.
Some folks may know that bassist Will Potter also writes books – mostly non-fiction and puzzle books for kids (see here). Currently he’s collaborating with the illustrator Gareth Conway on a pair of Turing Test titles.
Gareth, it turns out is a CUD fan from way back, and shared this lovely tribute to our Leggy Mambo album. Thanks, Gareth! You can see more of Gareth’s work here. Anyone fancy a print?
Here’s a treat! A wonderful cover of Rich and Strange recorded as a birthday gift.
Thanks to both Alva and Anders for sharing this. For CUD fan Anders Färlin’s recent birthday, his talented daughter, Alva, recorded this amazing version of Rich and Strange, that she has generously allowed us to share.
A few years back CUD were invited to play at David Gedge’s annual festival in Brighton, At The Edge Of The Sea. Sadly, this year’s event has joined the list of festivals postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, a ‘virtual’ version is taking place over the weekend of August 14-15. And CUD are joining in.
At The Edge Of The Sofa – which will be free to watch – will take place during the evenings of 14 & 15 August (the Friday and Saturday originally earmarked for At The Edge Of The Sea XII), streaming live on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
David will host the event from his living room and introduce a variety of features, including world-wide premieres of nine Wedding Present ‘locked down & stripped back’ videos, including a brand new Wedding Present song. David will be on hand to answer questions posted online by viewers and play requests live on his acoustic guitar… in the same way as he’s done during his previous solo streams.
CUD have recorded a message and an exclusive video (beamed from our own separate dwellings) of a new unreleased tune. We’re joining an exciting festival line-up that includes (in alphabetical order):
Amelia Coburn Badly Drawn Boy Chorusgirl CUD Darren Hayman [Hefner] French For Cartridge Helen McCookerybook [The Chefs] Jake Shillingford [My Life Story] Jetstream Pony [feat Shaun Charman (ex-Wedding Present drummer) Martin from British Sea Power Melys Miles Hunt [The Wonder Stuff] Si,irene [from Japan] Such Small Hands [feat Melanie Howard] Syndromet [from Sweden] Terry de Castro [ex-Wedding Present bassist] The Catenary Wires [feat Amelia Fletcher] The Popguns The Primitives The Sleazoids [feat Paul Dorrington (ex-Wedding Present guitarist) The Ukrainians [feat Peter Solowka (ex-Wedding Present guitarist)] Umut Adan [from Turkey] Vinny Peculiar Witching Waves Young Romance
Plus… David’s famous memorabilia raffle!
The festival will offer opportunities to help local venues and crew unable to put on live music. We hope you can join us all!
Because you demanded it, the CUD Band are back with another Listening Event on Wednesday 1 July, to celebrate the (almost) 22nd anniversary of their ‘smash hit’ A&M album release, featuring that little-known track Rich and Strange.
Join us on at 8pm for an Asquarius Listening Party!
Anyone who wants to join in will need to play CUD’s ‘Asquarius’ album (LP, CD, MP3, cassette, streaming) starting at exactly 8pm. As the album plays, track by track, Carl, Will, Mike and Gogs from the band will be online, commenting live and fielding your questions.
To join in, you need to be on Twitter, using and following the slightly awkward hashtag #AsquarWithUs. All comments using this hashtag will appear in one long stream. Be sure to follow the band @CUDband, Carl @CarlPuttnam, Will @willcud, Mike @mikedmfy and Gogs @GogsByrn too, and ask questions as we go.
After the fantastic response to this week’s ‘When in Rome, Kill Me‘ Twitter Listening Event, we’re coming back for an encore. Join us on Tuesday May 12 at 8pm for a Leggy Mambo Listening Party!
